Trump says oil output cut could be as high as 15 million barrels a day

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday said he had spoken to Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman and that he expects Saudi Arabia and Russia to cut oil output by as much as 15 million barrels per day, as the two countries signaled willingness for a deal. In a pair of tweets, Trump initially said the cut would be about 10 million barrels a day, before later raising the figure. “If it happens,” the Republican U.S. president wrote on Twitter, it “will be GREAT for the oil & gas industry!” Trump did not specify that the cuts referred to barrels per day, but that is the most common expression of supply and demand for oil. Oil markets plunged in March as the production feud between Saudi Arabia and Russia intensified as global demand plunged due to the coronavirus pandemic shuttering many economies. Trump, who is scheduled to meet with U.S. oil executives on Friday, did not say there was a definitive deal between Saudi and Russia but said he expected and had “hope” for the cut. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies including Russia had cut production for more than three years to bolster prices. That deal ended in earl...

In the midst of the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, one can observe there are more

In the midst of the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, one can observe there are more than a few men sporting a particular hat reminiscent of the style featured on the BBC show “Peaky Blinders.” But, there’s more to it than the show. The wedge-shaped hat that peaks at the back and slopes down to the brim is a classic style first popular in the waning days of the Victorian Age. People call it by different names. Peaky, poor boy, driver, ivy, newsboy — there are subtle variations that make them different, but look similar enough that people often interchange the names. Steampunk, which dwells within the same turn of the century period, has helped bring it back en vogue. That’s why some have taken to calling them “hipster” hats. The versatile look of the hat allows it to be worn with suits. Cillian Murphy’s character on Peaky Blinders is never without his flat cap as he walks the streets of Birmingham, England in his three-piece suit. Just as “Mad Men” influenced the two-piece suit trend in professional attire, the BBC show has influenced several hat makers like Boston Scally Co. in Pennsylvania to market a hat named after the show. It’s helped casual wear to lean towards a more mat...

Hand Cranked Generator Charges Supercaps, Starts Car

Pity the lowly lead-acid battery. A century of use as the go-to method for storing enough electrons to spin the starter motor of a car engine has endeared it to few.  Will newer technology supplant that heavy, toxic, and corrosive black box under your hood? If this supercapacitor boost box is any indication, then we’d say lead-acid’s days are numbered. To be fair, we’ll bet that number is still pretty big. It takes a lot to displace a tried and true technology, especially for something as optimized as the lead-acid battery. But [lasersaber]’s build shows just how far capacitive storage has come from the days when supercaps were relegated to keeping your PC’s clock running. With six commercial 400F caps and a custom-built balance board, the bank takes a charge from a cheap 24V hand generator. The output is either to a heavy-duty lighter socket or some automotive-style lugs, and the whole thing is housed in a simple box partially constructed using energy stored in the bank. Can the supercaps start a car? Stay tuned after the break for the answer. Although we’ve seen supercaps replace a motorcycle battery before, we’re a little disappointed that the caps used here only have a 1500-...

Amazon keeps selling out of these 55 awesome things

It’s not uncommon to find empty shelves in brick and mortar stores. When your local shop runs out of an item, they have to wait until the next delivery — it could be a week, or even a month until they’re able to restock it. But when select things on Amazon keep selling out, it’s a completely different story; it’s much more impressive. For starters, Amazon has hundreds of massive, sprawling distribution centers filled with products. If one center doesn’t have something in particular, they’ll most likely be able to find it at another. But if the item you’re looking for is truly sold out? Then you know it’s worth your time and money. A physical store probably had around 20 of whatever “it” is in stock, but Amazon? Hundreds if not thousands of products had to have gone flying off the virtual shelves in order for them to run out — and I’ve collected some of the best of the best for you here. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for smart tech gifts, eco-friendly solutions, must-have beauty products, or life-changing kitchen gadgets. Amazon has it all. But even the world’s biggest online retailer c...
